Michael "Mig" Mrizek holds an MFA in Games and Interactive Media from American University as well as a BA in Theatre Arts from Seattle University. His work is driven to create a sense of wonderment from the lighting and environmental design in his projects.
He started his career as a theatrical lighting designer and electrician after graduating from Seattle University in 2018. During these experiences, he has found a passion for leadership in creative spaces and is willing to solve any problem he can in producing artistic projects.
His most recent theatrical design credits include The Misanthrope with Seattle University, Office Hour with ArtsWest, and Bridge Project with Velocity Dance Center. He has also worked as an assistant lighting designer, electrician, and light board programmer on many shows (theatrical and dance) throughout Seattle with companies and creatives like Whim W'Him, Alice Gosti, and KT Niehoff, Seattle Shakes, Book-it Rep, and Seattle Public Theatre. Outside of his design work, he was the Technical Director and Associate Venue Manager at the West of Lenin theatre in Seattle's Fremont Neighborhood before moving to D.C. for graduate school.
Since graduating from American University in Spring 2023, he has co-founded a fully remote game studio with fellow members of his graduate cohort and relocated to Portland, OR. The worker cooperative studio, Gaming Gourd, is currently in development of their first game, Improv Fight Night.
